14 drops

So tonight I helped Kyle work on the '33. This might be the first time I've really helped him in the garage with the '33. I've helped other times with bleeding the brakes and holding wrenches (jobs that require a second person.) I've also helped a lot with stylistic choices regarding the color and interior. But my biggest contribution, up to this point, has been financial; we always joke that Kyle works so we can live and I work so we can play.

Tonight Kyle was putting the first layer of resin on what will become the center console. It's such a big project that he needed me to help mix up batches of resin and then help him brush on a layer of fiberglass before the resin hardened. I was making the resin in 8 ounce batches and had to mix in 14 drops of hardener for each ounce, so I counted to 14 numerous times tonight (I think we ended up using 6 batches of resin!)

The long portion on the left is the arm rest, the shifter will go in the middle of the dip and the AC controls and vent will go on the slope to the right.

Kyle designed this center console from scratch. The car does not come with one so he decided to make one. That is one of the things I love about him. Don't have what you want? Make one. Don't like what you have? Change it. He's so original and not afraid to make something his own. He actually prefers to add his own little touches and trademarks to his projects which makes them more special (even if we're the only ones who know about it). The center console will also be nice because it will give us a place to put everything that would normally go in a glove box (ya know: napkins, registration & insurance, pens, tape). We will also conceal a radio of some sort in it. We can't go cruisin' without some music of course!
