thank you for the music...

In 5th grade we were required to take band as a part of our curriculum. (I chose the flute because it seemed so pretty and elegant.) Enter Jim Santy, my first music teacher. He was a wonderful and jovial man who loved teaching his students. He always called himself "an old fat cat." He always wore fun ties and he came to every band concert I can remember even after he had passed me on to the wonderful teachers he mentored. Bill Huhnke and Chris Taylor were two (of the three) best music teachers I had and that is because they learned from Mr. Santy. I am grateful that Mr. Santy introduced me to music and I am grateful for all it has brought me in my life. In 2004, Mr. Huhnke unexpectedly passed away, and today I lost another one of my great teachers and mentors.

Heaven is a better place today with Mr. Santy in it.

The Park City School District is a better place because he was there.

I am a better person because of him.

"So I say thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me"

Rest in Peace Jim Santy...you old fat cat...
