where did the time go?

August already?! I was supposed to sort, organize, de-clutter and deep clean my house this summer (because I would be done with school!!!) Now school (teaching) is starting again in just a few short weeks and I'm nowhere near where I wanted to be...

I'm actually barely getting started. From top to bottom:

-Our bedroom: is not too bad. It's dusty, but there is hardly any clutter in our bedroom. Nothing that wouldn't be solved with a quick 5-10 minute "pick up" session.

-Our bathroom: always needs cleaned (like every other bathroom out there). The actual problem is the linen closet. I need to go through all of the toiletries and get rid of half-used shampoo, old make up, and perfume/cologne that neither of us wear. It is chock full of clutter and it drives me nuts!!! (Mostly because I knock it over every time I try to get stuff out of there!)

-The guest bedroom: is semi-cluttered. There are a lot of pictures that need to find walls, some odds & ends that need sorted and put away, and this is the home of the DI box(es). But all in all, it's not too bad. It will eventually turn into just a guest bedroom, but until we get there, it will also be my craft room.

-The office: the bane of my existence. The office is the worst room in the house. It is full of stacks of bills/EOB's/statements/pay stubs/etc that need to be sorted and filed. I have files for everything, I just haven't filed stuff for a while. Then there are the stacks of schoolwork that I need to go through. That includes my school work as well as my students' work that needs to be sorted. This room is the one room that overwhelms the living crap out of me!!! It's also the one room that really I need to clean before school starts so I can use it as an office again.

-The kitchen and formal living room is pretty clean. I did tackle that towards the beginning of the summer and have been doing pretty good at keeping it up.

-Our basement is half and half. The living room half is pretty clean. Some mild clutter, but a good hour or two and it would be in shape. The other half of the basement, lovingly dubbed "the parts depot" by our friends, is full of boxes of car parts. I don't actually have a problem with the boxes of car parts because there's really nowhere else for us to put them. (I know that many of you are saying "well, what about the garage?" but when you're building a car, there's only so much you can keep in the garage.) The thing that bothers me is that "the parts depot" hasn't been vacuumed, dusted or re-arranged for a while. That's the cleaning I would like to do over there the most.

After writing about it, it doesn't seem as overwhelming as I originally thought (which is actually what I was hoping to accomplish by writing this post). The only overwhelming thing is that I'm not including cleaning like vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, etc. in this list. I'm mostly talking about just de-cluttering and organizing each of these rooms. THEN I will get to the cleaning...
